The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 35-year-old Mujaheed Suraj in connection with a shooting incident that injured two people during the 2024 general elections.
In a statement released on January 23, 2026, the police said, “The Central East Regional Police Command on January 17, 2026, through intelligence, arrested Suspect Mujaheed Suraj, aged 35, for shooting and causing harm to two (2) victims, namely, Bukari Inusah, aged 3,4 and Tanimu Adamu Tanko, 44, during the voting day of the 2024 general elections at the Odupon Kpekehe School Park, Kasoa Zongo in the Central Region.”
According to the police, they responded to a distress call that a man had shot indiscriminately and had caused damage to a stationary Pick-up Truck.
“At the scene, police found the two injured victims soaked in blood as well as the damaged Pick-up Truck. Both victims were rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic for treatment and were subsequently transferred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba for further treatment, while the suspect was on the run”, the statement said.
The police noted that Suraj was arrested through further intelligence-led interventions.
“Suspect Mujaheed Suraj, who went into hiding since the incident was arrested at Kasoa Zongo. During interrogations, he confessed and claimed ownership of a pump action gun which he used in committing the crime”, it stated.
The police said that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
