Following an earlier report that a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has stabbed his wife in the United Staes of America (USA), Gilda Norty, new details have emerged.

In an interview on Citi News, monitored by GhanaWeb on January 20, 2026, the family of Gilda Norty has shared a vivid account of what led to the stabbing incident.

According to David Gyapanin, uncle to Gilda Norty, he described the incident as troubling, adding that the couple was having issues at home, something they considered minor.

He explained that things escalated after her niece threatened to file for divorce if issues in their marriage continued.

“They had a little argument, and my niece said she may file for divorce if things continue that way. My niece said Valentino threatened to either kill himself or kill her. He stabbed her three times. She pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. He agreed on condition that she would not mention his name,” he said.

David Gyapanin additionally shared how his niece was able to secure medical help after the former parliamentary candidate refused to assist.

“Fortunately, she had the car key and managed to drive to the hospital where she works. She is getting better. As a family, we want nothing less than justice.”

The family is, however, seeking justice and has vowed to go to any length to ensure that justice is served.

“It happened in the States and we want to believe that the laws there will be enforced fully. You can’t marry someone’s daughter, and just because she says she no longer wants the marriage, decide to end her life. If justice isn’t served in the States, when he comes to Ghana, we will seek justice,” he added.
