A group calling itself Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028 is urging the National Council of the opposition New Patriotic Party to call the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua to order.
According to the group Mr. Frimpong Kodua has mismanaged the party, making the NPP unattractive.
The group made this known to the public at a press conference in Kumasi this morning.
Leader of the Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028, Prince Owusu said the events that characterised the constituency executives elections over the weekend is clear indication that Justin Frimpong Kodua is incompetent and immature for the general secretary position.
Mr. Owusu stated that the NPP deserves a General secretary who respects the Grassroots. Who can mobilise resources, and deliver peaceful and credible elections, adding that the current leadership has failed on all fronts.
The group further called on the National Council to intervene immediately to provide basic support to delegates for the remaining elections.

DEMAND FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF HON. JUSTIN FRIMPONG KODUA AS GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE NPP

Fellow Patriots,
Members of the Media,
Delegates, Executives and Stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party,

We, the Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028, Ashanti Region Branch, have called this emergency press conference with grave concern over the state of our great Party following the “Minutes of Emergency Meeting” issued by the General Secretary, Hon. Justin Frimpong Kodua, Esq., and the events that characterized the Constituency Executive Elections over the weekend.

After reviewing the directives contained in that statement and the consequences on the ground, we conclude that the General Secretary has failed the grassroots, failed in leadership, and must resign immediately in the interest of the NPP.

OUR GROUNDS FOR THIS DEMAND ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  1. ABANDONMENT AND CONTEMPT FOR THE GRASSROOTS DELEGATE
In his own minutes, the General Secretary has directed that the Party will provide NO transportation, NO food, NO drinks, and NO water for delegates attending constituency elections.
To tell the men and women who walk miles, spend their own money, and risk their safety to build the Party at the polling station level to “Arrive. Vote. Leave” without even water is wicked, inhumane, and anti-grassroots.
This directive treats delegates like beggars instead of the owners of the Party. If the Party is broke, the leadership must take responsibility, not punish the base.
  2. LEADERSHIP INCOMPETENCE THAT TRIGGERED VIOLENCE OVER THE WEEKEND
The constituency elections held over the weekend were tragically marred by chaos, confusion, and violence in several constituencies across the country. We witnessed invasions of polling centres, confrontations, and arrests, including the incident at Afigya Sekyere East.
This did not happen by accident. It is the direct result of poor planning, inadequate logistics, underfunded security, and directives that left constituencies to fend for themselves.
A leader who cannot guarantee peace in internal elections cannot be trusted to lead us to victory in 2028. The blood and tension we saw last weekend are on the hands of this leadership.
  3. RECORD OF ELECTORAL FAILURE UNDER HIS WATCH
Leadership is judged by results. Under the watch of Hon. Justin Frimpong Kodua as General Secretary, the NPP suffered a historic decline in the 2024 Parliamentary Elections — from 137 seats to 88 seats.
That is a loss of 49 parliamentary seats. This is the worst performance of the NPP in the 4th Republic.
A General Secretary who presided over such a massive decline in our parliamentary fortunes has no moral authority to continue leading the Party’s internal machinery. The Ashanti Region, the heartland of the NPP, also felt this decline. We cannot reward failure with another term.
  4. FINANCIAL INCONSISTENCY AND LACK OF TRANSPARENCY
The same statement admits to “severe financial constraints” — that the Party cannot afford GHS 5,000 for constituency operations, cannot properly fund police, and cannot support delegates.
Yet we all recall when, as an individual, the General Secretary paid nomination fees for all aspirants nationwide during a previous election.
We ask: Where did that money come from if the Party is broke? Why can one man find money for aspirants, but the Party he leads cannot find money for delegates and logistics?
This contradiction points to misplaced priorities and raises serious questions about transparency and accountability.

OUR DEMAND

In view of the above, the Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028, Ashanti Region Branch hereby DEMANDS THE IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF HON. JUSTIN FRIMPONG KODUA as General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party.

The NPP deserves a General Secretary who respects the grassroots, who can mobilize resources, and who can deliver peaceful and credible elections. The current leadership has failed on all fronts.

We further call on the National Council to:

  1. Intervene immediately to provide basic support to delegates for the remaining elections.
  2. Institute an independent audit into Party finances and election logistics.
  3. Ensure that the voice of the grassroots is restored at the centre of decision-making.

The NPP does not belong to Flagstaff House or to National Headquarters. The NPP belongs to the polling station executive, the electoral area coordinator, and the delegate in the village. We will not watch the Party be destroyed by arrogance and incompetence.
